What is FDIC Insurance?

At Texas First, your financial security is our top priority. As a proud member of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), we provide the confidence and peace of mind that comes from knowing your deposits are protected up to applicable FDIC insurance limits.

What Does It Mean to Be FDIC Insured?

Being FDIC insured means that the money you keep in your deposit accounts at Texas First Bank is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government. If anything were ever to happen to the bank, the FDIC would step in to ensure you get your insured funds back—up to the coverage limits. FDIC Logo

This protection is automatic for all deposit accounts. You don’t have to sign up or pay anything for FDIC coverage.

How Much of My Money is Protected?

The FDIC covers up to:

  • $250,000 per depositor
  • per insured bank
  • per ownership category

That means your total insured amount may be higher depending on how your accounts are structured. For example, an individual account, a joint account, and certain retirement accounts each have their own separate $250,000 coverage limit.

The FDIC has launched a tool at https://edie.fdic.gov that is designed to help consumers calculate their insurance coverage and learn about what the rules and limitations of deposit insurance mean for you.1

If you’re unsure how much of your money is protected, we’re happy to help you review your accounts.

What Types of Accounts Are Covered?

Most common deposit accounts at Texas First Bank are fully FDIC insured, including:

What Isn't Covered by the FDIC?

While FDIC insurance protects traditional bank deposits, it does not cover:

  • Investments in stocks, bonds, or mutual funds
  • Annuities or insurance products
  • Safe deposit box contents
  • Crypto assets (even if purchased through a bank)
  • Money market mutual funds (different from money market deposit accounts)

If you ever have questions about what’s protected, our team is here to guide you.

Why FDIC Insurance Matters

FDIC insurance exists to keep your money safe and the U.S. banking system strong. Since its founding in 1933, no depositor has ever lost a penny of insured funds. That’s the reliability and stability you can count on when banking with us.
